The morning sun spilled across Maya’s face as she sipped her coffee, the ceramic mug warm against her fingers. A gentle breeze danced through the open window, carrying the scent of blooming jasmine from the courtyard below. She stretched, her muscles loose and relaxed, listening to the melodic chirping of birds. Today felt like any other.

She hummed along to the upbeat tune playing on the radio, absentmindedly wiping a smudge of cream from her lip. The kitchen counter was spotless, reflecting the tidy order of her small apartment. Her gaze drifted over to the calendar, noting an upcoming gallery opening she was eager to attend.

A crisp, white envelope slid through the mail slot, landing with a soft thud on the doormat. Maya paused her humming and glanced towards the floor, but then dismissed it as junk mail. She smiled. Another perfect day.
